Single Family Home for sale by owner in Rhinelander, Wisconsin 54501. Wonderful home for a home schooling family. Wonderful home for a family that loves to have guests and entertain. On three acres, with two acres of pine, poplar, and birch. Relatively secluded. Cannot see neighbors from the house or yard. A unique, custom designed log home of eclectic style, mixing French Canadian piece-an-piece, Classic post and beam, and Appalachian square timber. This allows the practicality of flat walls to be enjoyed as well as the ambience of a log home. The walls are 8' thick squared timbers that range from 8' to 26' high. The timbers were spiked together with 5/8' rebar. Three stories including the walk-in basement. 3600 sq. feet excluding deck and porch. Rustic maple flooring in all the rooms on the two main floors except the bedrooms which are carpeted. The living room, dining room, and kitchen flow together in open style, comprising about 3/4 of the main floor. Ceilings are 9' on the two main floors, and one extra course of block high in the basement. Primary heat source is hydronic heat generated by a Munchkin boiler fired by LP. Secondary heat source is a large Russian Fireplace in the basement. The fireplace alone heats the house unless the weather dips below zero for more than a day. (We keep the thermostat set to 62 degrees). There are two separate, but side-by-side, chimneys. One is used for the Russian Fireplace. The second is unused, but allows for a wood stove to be installed on the main floor. Main floor: Living Room (piano corner with dedicated lighting) Dining Room (sun windows on East and South) Kitchen (granite countertops, hickory cabinets, triple basin sink) Bath (silestone countertop, antique clawfoot tub, stand alone shower) Pantry (attached to kitchen) Linen Closet (cedar lined) Bedroom #1 (large bedroom, two cedar closets) Top floor: Library (large, can be used for a multi-purpose room) Office/Study (13.5 X 16, two beams, well lit) Reading Nook (corner near chimney, off library, ceiling light) Sewing Nook (spacious) Bedroom #2 (small, cedar closet) Bedroom #3 (spacious walk-in cedar closet, master bath) Bathroom (silestone countertop, jacuzzi whirlpool tub, stand alone shower) Basement: Main Room (unfinished family room, granite fireplace, granite reading bench) Laundry Room (unfinished, laundry sink, utility hookups) Bedroom #4 (two cedar closets) Workroom (could easily be a workshop or hobby room, recessed lighting) Utility Room (boiler, well, hot water heater, electric panel) Unique Features: Closet rods are heavy gauge black pipe. A grown man can hang on them. All closets are cedar lined. Maple flooring is salvaged from the dance floor of the old Labor Temple. Stairwells are extra wide. Stairs constructed with 4 pairs doubled 2 X 12 stringers. Very sturdy. Extras: Reading/Writing Cabin (8' X 8', electricity, wood stove, bookshelves, desk) Semi-underground greenhouse (two waist high beds, electricity setup) Chicken Coop Two sheds Large schoolyard swingset with slide and teeter-totter. Woodshed (more utilitarian than pretty) Deck off the rear of the house. Sitting Porch off the front of the house. Design Extras: Frank Lloyd Wright rubble trench footings for superior drainage and load-bearing. Wide trenches filled with angular railroad bed gravel below the frost line. Footing size, rebar reinforced grade beams on top of the gravel beds. Extra load-bearing grade beam down the center of the slab. Foundation walls are 12' block, drystacked, and block-bonded inside and out for superior tensile strength. Cores are poured and rebar reinforced every 4 feet (beyond code). Top course is bond beam with rebar to lock walls together. Middle course on the slope side (north) is also bond beam. Cores were filled with sand for thermal mass. R-10 pinkboard on the exterior which is covered with stucco (over diamond mesh). The roof is a metal roof on a purlin system of 2 X 4's flat side down on 8' centers. This allows the enjoyment of the strengths of a metal roof without worrying about damaged seams leaking. This roof can be walked on without worry. This is an exceptionally sturdy roof. Optional extras: (We can talk about them) Console grand piano. (Sounds very nice). Matching stainless fridge and glasstop stove/convection oven. Rustic breakfast bar in the kitchen.
